The Workers' Safety Representative (RLS) is a figure that was created to give a structured and qualified voice to workers on health and safety issues in the company. This is not a merely symbolic role, but a subject that enters permanently into the decision-making processes concerning the organization of work, the identification of risks and the choice of prevention measures. As a rule, the RLS is an employee, chosen by colleagues, who knows the dynamics, practices and critical issues of the production context from the inside. It is precisely this proximity to the workplace that allows the representative to promptly intercept problems, to translate the needs of workers into technical observations and to deal with the employer and the other company functions involved in safety in an informed manner. Within the framework outlined by Legislative Decree 81/2008, the RLS is involved in the risk assessment and preparation of the DVR, participating in the discussion on the measures to be adopted and their updating. He also has the right to access safety documentation, such as accident reports, training records and PPE delivery certificates, so that he can carry out an effective and not merely formal check. If an internal RLS is not elected or designated in the company, the system does not leave the representation front uncovered: in fact, the Workers' Representative for Territorial Safety (RLST), identified by collective bargaining at national or category level, takes over. In this way, even in realities without an internal trade union structure, technical and continuous protection of the interests of workers with respect to occupational health and safety profiles is guaranteed.
